Coral in the renovation of the Rossio Quarter

Rossio Quarter, located in the center of Lisbon, is one of the most emblematic and historic projects in the city. With over 200 years of history, this group of buildings in the Baixa Pombalina went through a significant renovation, giving back new life and functionality to this iconic area. Coral, renowned for its excellence in creating personalized plaster pieces, played a crucial role in this large project.

Conclusion

The renovation of the Rossio Quarter was successfully accomplished, transforming this historic area into a modern and functional space without losing its pombaline essence. The Zara store, which will be one of the largest in the world, will open its doors in an environment that combines luxury, history and modernity. The Coral-created pieces significantly contributed to the aesthetic and atmosphere of the space, reflecting the incomparable dedication and skills of the company.

With a combination of traditional methods and modern innovations, Coral has demonstrated that it is prepared for any challenge. This project not only reaffirms Coral’s position as a sector leader, but it also reinforces its commitment to excellence and the preservation of cultural heritage.

The challenge

The construction work in the Rossio Block involves seven buildings, totalling 10,000 square meters. The project aimed not only to renovate the physical structure of the buildings but also preserve their rich historical heritage. The goal was to create decorative elements that respected the original architectural styles while maintaining the exclusivity of the space. The main requirement of our stakeholders Alves Ribeiro, HCI and Contacto Atlântico was that the pieces of the world’s largest Zara should be unique.

The solution

Coral was chosen to supply a variety of personalized pieces for very elaborate ceilings. There were over 60 models and more than 400 pieces, including cornicings, ceiling centers and ceiling rings, among other decorative elements. Using traditional sculpting and moulding methods, our artisans created different architectural elements using plaster.

Each piece was meticulously crafted to guarantee that it respected the clients specifications and it maintained the historic authenticity of the buildings. The attention to detail and to quality was fundamental from the creation to the finishing touches. The collaboration between Coral and the construction teams allowed for the execution of a unique and challenging project which was concluded in a production time of just 40 days.
